Siemens Campus Erlangen

Pioneering work in urban mobility and sustainable infrastructure: parking garages on the Siemens Campus Erlangen.

Innovative, sustainable, integrative.

As part of the comprehensive transformation of the Siemens research site in Erlangen, Huber Parking has taken on responsibility for the construction of three new parking garages in Module 2 as well as the facade design of three existing parking garages in Module 1. Siemens Real Estate is pursuing the ambitious goal of creating a new, barrier-free and lively district by 2030 that is characterized by a combination of modern office infrastructure, spacious green spaces and a well-thought-out mobility concept.

Versatile mobility solutions.

The new car parks were built between 2019 and 2022. They offer a total of 2,227 parking bays. At least 210 parking bays are equipped with wall boxes for electric vehicles. In addition, 1,500 ground-level bicycle parking spaces were created in separate areas on the ground floors. In total, the buildings cover an area of approximately 80,000 square metres. Each car park has several technical, IT and transformer rooms required for the PV system and the numerous e-chargers. 48 e-charging points provide sufficient charging capacity. The bike ramps are equipped with automatic heating systems that have temperature sensors and ice and snow sensors to ensure safe use if necessary.

"The Siemens Campus will become the new landmark for Siemens in Erlangen and the surrounding area."

Focus on sustainability.

Each car park roof is equipped with a photovoltaic system and is completely energy self-sufficient when the sun is shining. The PV system then not only generates electricity for the parking control technology, electric charging stations, passenger lifts and car park lighting, but also contributes to the energy supply of large parts of the Siemens Campus. The use of recycled materials in the workspaces and in the substructure of the paved levels underlines the commitment to environmental friendliness.

And the facades? Aesthetics meet functionality.

The expanded metal facades of the six multi-storey car parks in modules 1 and 2 are constructed as a ventilated curtain wall system using anodised aluminium expanded metal elements. As well as being visually appealing, they also help to improve the microclimate. Climbing plants such as ivy, wild vine, creeping knotweed, whistling wind and clematis were planted in prepared substrate and attached to the facades to create a natural green facade. This is how natural facade greening is achieved. In one of the two stairwells per car park in Module 2, a stainless-steel lift provides vertical access to all eight levels. Tactile markings on the handrails improve accessibility.

Huber Parking says:
A milestone for the future.

"The multi-storey car park project at the Siemens Campus Erlangen is a prime example of the combination of modern architecture, sustainability and future-oriented mobility. It reflects the ambition to design urban spaces that are not only functional, but also liveable and environmentally friendly."
