Amsterdam C26

Residential parking garage residential area in a restructuring area - from a former industrial port to urban living on the water

Buiksloterham project

C26 is the second parking garage in the Buiksloterham project, which will, among other things, integrate 284 parking spaces into the new residential area in the north of Amsterdam. Together with the first A1 parking garage, which was also built by Huber Parking, this area offers space for more than 500 cars and the street space is accordingly relieved. In the restructuring area of the former port of Amsterdam, the contour of the facade garden traces the curve of an old railway line on which goods were transported to the warehouses and factories that characterized this former industrial area by the port. Like the A1 car park at the other end of the new building project comprising 550 residential units, the C26 car park fits into the urban development plan. In addition to the car parking spaces, there are also bicycle parking spaces for residents and commuters as well as other rooms on the ground floor, such as: B. an approx. 200 m² commercially usable area (office), a transformer station and a heat transfer station. The latter is the interface between the district heating network and the residential area. Automatic switching between heating and cooling mode is possible using a ground probe.

On the street side, the north-east side of the car park, there are large planter boxes distributed over the entire height of the facade so that the entire facade can be greened with the help of stainless steel climbing nets.

In order to generate the 284 parking spaces required for the residential quarter on the limited floor space of 34 x 38 metres, the parking decks rise over seven levels up to a roof height of 23 metres.

Facade

Sustainable facade garden concept

The galvanised steel facade is both reminiscent of the former industrial harbour and emphasises the service character of the building. The structured surface gives the C26 car park a subtle tactility. The predominantly utilitarian character of the design is counterbalanced by the open expanded metal structure in combination with 14 generous planters on the street side and in the pedestrian access area to the courtyard. Green facades break through the steel monolith of the car park and, together with the green roof, ensure that nature is integrated into the development of the site.

The hot dip galvanisation of the main supporting structure, standard for all Huber Parking car parks, is perfectly complemented in this specific location by the galvanised facade elements and planter boxes. The high sustainability standards of the entire district are met right down to the galvanised facade. The combination of surface treatment and corrosion protection in a single coating is designed to use resources more conscious and protect the environment.

Roof greening

The roof, as the fifth facade, contributes to the microclimate of the neighbourhood with its sedum greenery, not least due to its high ability to bind fine dust and buffer water.

"What I particularly liked about the project was that a lot of sustainability issues were taken into account. As the multi-storey car park was designed for a residential area, this is particularly valuable."
