Ästhetische Integration in ein modernes Wohnquartier

The Holzhofpark car park is an important part of the new residential area at Holzhofpark in Darmstadt. With 274 parking spaces spread over seven mezzanines, it represents the essential infrastructure for the district. Located between Holzhofallee, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Stephanstrasse and Schöfferstrasse, it fits seamlessly into its contemporary environment, which includes over 300 rental apartments in eight new buildings.

The parking garage designed by Planquadrat is architecturally characterized by vertical aluminum facade slats with a wood look, which create a visual connection to the sliding shutters of the neighboring residential buildings. The successful visual symbiosis means that the parking garage as such cannot be recognized at first glance. It was not for nothing that the architects received an award in the “Neighborhood Development” category of the “Residential Buildings of the Year 2022” award for the overall concept of eight apartment buildings, a converted publishing house and the new parking garage.

Fire protection wall

The integration of a fire protection wall and the arrangement of the two staircases contribute to the safety and accessibility of the car park building. Covered ramps and the separate access road for entry and exit ensure efficient utilisation. Only tenants of Holzhofpark and visitors to the university are permitted to park. An access control system records the various user groups.

Sustainability through efficient construction

By providing multi-storey car parks, existing trees could be preserved and new trees planted on the site. There was also enough space for a playground, which emphasises the added value of the project in terms of urban development. The Holzhofpark multi-storey car park shows how more building land for residential construction in urban locations is possible by reducing the space required for stationary traffic and how this can increase the sustainable attractiveness of residential locations in terms of aesthetics and quality.
